It started as “Worldly Travel for the Culturally Challenged.” Putting together winter excursions for a bunch of us ranchers in the West who wanted to escape the cold and cows, I began planning itineraries and guiding small groups over twenty years ago. Each year out-did the last. Go farther. Dig deeper. Do more. At first, we just took turns scaring the shit out of each other. But eventually, our curiosity (and sense of self-preservation) kicked in and we wanted more interesting, elevated, and unique experiences that included the people OF a region.

To find the unordinary became my mission.

During the rest of the year, we mixed horses, hounds, and people in a myriad of adventures. From fishing trips to foxhunts, horse drives to trail rides, guest ranches to hunting camps, campfires to formal balls, and photography schools to archeology expeditions, my job was to build one-of-a-kind, transformative events for hundreds of people from all over the world.

Novel experiences change us profoundly. They shake things up and literally open our minds, the very neural network, to new ways of thinking and seeing the world. They’re catalysts for exponential growth. Truly unique and engaging experiences, especially those that challenge and push us just a little out of our comfort zones, are enlightening. I’ve seen strong men humbled, children’s eyes light with self-discovery, women bloom with newfound confidence, and people meaningfully connect on levels beyond the ordinary.

I’ve tried to cram as many of these experiences into my life as possible and been privileged to share in others’ ah-ha moments. With an Affaire, I dig deep to find the novel, fascinating and authentic. I seek creative answers and comprehensive campaigns. I pursue the unordinary.
